PROBLEM STATEMENT:

  • Currently, the real time monitoring of ECG is not possible for multiple patients in the hospital
  • Several patients face difficulties in case of medical emergencies due to lack of resources.
  • Real time diagnosis as well as treatment of patient’s ailment is not ensured

The main objective of these Pakistani Engineers was to :

  • Develop a portable monitoring system for ECG signals.
  • The system provides remote monitoring of several patients wearing a smart portable device equipped with ZigBee/IEEE RF module based on wireless sensor networks.
  • Detect serious heart anomalies in time, send alarm to authorized medical staff or physician through telecommunication network.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES:

  • Other than ECG, additional parameters being monitored are;
  • Heart Rate
  • Temperature
  • Integration of circuits to measure the additional parameters and send this information along with ECG (real time processing) to the concerned person.

Complications Faced :

  • Incompatibility Of ECG Measurement Equipment In Hospital
  • Absence of either serial port or software to access data from serial ports of equipments.
  • The third issue was the power supply that they had to design for the ECG signal conditioning circuit.

CIRCUIT SIMULATION : OXYGEN LEVEL

  • The hardware has been implemented for the ECG, temperature and heart rate acquisition.
  • The XBEE receiver has been successfully interfaced with the computer .

  • PROGRAMMING ALGORITHMS

They have separately implemented the programming codes for ECG, heart rate and temperature.

  • APPLICATIONS:
  • Monitoring multiple patients at the same time.
  • Diagnosis of the patient’s ailment will be easier.
  • Treatment can be provided in least amount of time.
  • Software application can provide intelligent diagnosis.
  • Physician’s physical presence will not be necessary.

All the work is done by Pakistani Engineers practically under the supervision of senior professor in workshop of well-reputed Pakistan Institute.
